About WLMP
What is WLMP format? First you have to know that WLMP is not a video format, it's a kind of file extension short for Windows Live Movie Maker Project. Windows Live Movie Maker is a free program that can create movies and slideshows containing movie transitions, music, and effects as well as links to digital photos or videos. You cannot open WLMP files directly with any video codec or player like Windows Media Player and VLC as they are project files used to create videos.
If you want to convert WLMP file to other format for further use, you have to convert the project file to WMV first via Windows Live Movie Maker following part 1. Then you can convert the saved WLMP WMV file to MP4, AVI, MOV, MP3 and other video/audio formats with the powerful Total Media Converter in part 2.
1. How to convert WLMP to WMV/MP4?
Launch Windows Live Movie Maker, and then open your .wlmp file by clicking "File" -> "Open Project", or using the hotkey Ctrl + O.
Tip: There you can play and preview the WLMP file in Windows Live Movie Maker.
Then click "File" -> "Save Movie", you can find various options to output the Windows Live Movie Project file. Choose your needed output mode to save WLMP to WMV or MP4 (Note: MP4 output format is only available in Windows Live Movie Maker 2012 or higher). If you don't know which mode to choose, just click the Recommended Setting on the top of the list.
Tips: You can convert WLMP to WMA/M4A by choosing Audio Only mode.
2. How to convert WLMP to MP4/AVI/MOV/FLV/MP3 and more?
Though WLMP files can be converted to WMV or MP4 via the free Windows Live Movie Maker, it has big limitation if you want other formats like AVI, MOV, FLV, MP3, etc to play in specific devices, edit in iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or upload to YouTube.
To convert video to other formats, you have to download WLMP Converter first.
Add the saved WMV/MP4 file from part 1 to the WLMP Video Converter. Click "Add File" or just drag and drop the WLMP WMV/MP4 video file to the program.
Step 2
Choose output profile
Choose your needed output format(s) from the profile list. There you can choose to convert WLMP WMV/MP4 format to videos like MP4, AVI, MOV, FLV, MPG, TS, MKV, M4V, VOB, 3GP, WebM, MTV, DV, DPG AMV, H.264/MPEG4 and audio types like MP3, AAC, M4A, WMA, OGG, ALAC, WAV, and FLAC. Convert WLMP to chosen format
Set the destination folder to save the target file. Then click "Convert" button to start converting WLMP file. The WLMP conversion will complete in a quite short time.
